Sweet Providence
From Gospel Translations
By Sam Storms About Suffering
One of my heroes is Joni Eareckson Tada. Most of you know the story of her diving accident that left her almost completely paralyzed. In an interview with World Magazine (January 12, 2013), Joni revealed something of which I was unaware. It’s a stunning illustration of divine providence, both sweet and a bit strange.
The day before the incident Joni had gone to the drugstore to purchase a bottle of Nice ‘n Easy midnight summer blonde to lighten her hair color. She then explains: “Had my hair not been shockingly blonde, my sister Cathy would never have seen me face down in the water. She told me later on, ‘Joni, you were a mousy blonde and that water was dark and murky. Only because of the peroxided hair did I even see you.’ God sometimes uses the incidental choices we make to change our lives.” Indeed!
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered” (Matt. 10:29-30).
